This week's topic is "top ten book covers I wish I could redesign". This isn't a very easy post for me to do, but I'll try my best! (Being on this list doesn't necessarily mean that I won't read the book...)
1. Altered by Jennifer Rush - Does anyone else think that this is just a hideous cover? How does putting a shirtless guy on a cover make it good? Ergh and that font! And the color? Ick. Also, I don't really understand the trees...
2. Control by Lydia Kang - Eww the test tubes! I really don't like them... and when I see the "There are no accidents" tagline, I immediately think of the glowy test tube stuff as sperm. Which is totally gross, I know... but for some reason... first thing that comes to mind.
3. The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau - I don't know, this cover just really doesn't make sense to me. A really basic font, with a weird maze going on in the background and what's with the shield?
4. After Eden by Helen Douglas - Floating faces and birds. Do I really need to say more? I think that the font is terrible... and the blue tint only makes the floating faces worse.
5. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire - No. Just no-- why would I want to look at lips with a gross font and a tongue with some kind of nude painting on it? I wouldn't. That's the thing.
6. Ashen Winter by Mike Mullen - I don't know what it is about this cover... maybe it's how uncomfortably positioned the reaching hands are? Or maybe the colorful cloth background... why is there a cloth background? I just don't understand the appeal.
7. Magestirium by Jeff Hirsch - The floating person in black is my first turn-off for this cover, but it sure doesn't stop there. What's with the birds from under it's feet and the random green? Admit it, this cover is hideous!
8. Quarantine: The Loners by Lex Thomas - You can't tell me that this cover doesn't nearly give you hives! The destroyed classroom looks way too "edited" and the title... ew. I really don't like that font.
9. Poltergeeks by Sean Cummings - I think that my problem with this cover is that her hair is floating out and her arms are raised, like it's supposed to be obvious that she has telekinesis. That and the sickly shade of green. I don't like that either.
10. Blackwood by Gwenda Bond - THE SNAKE. I just can't handle the snake on her face... and again with the sickly green background! I also wish that the fonts were more readable.
So, all in all, I think that most of my cover "redesign" candidates are green. Go figure! Are any of these ones you would redesign? Sound off!
I've never seen this cover of Beautiful Disaster.Jesus,it's the creepiest cover I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteMaybe is green is not your colour:)
Here's my TTT- http://asthepageturn.blogspot.com/2013/11/top-ten-covers-i-wish-someone-could.html
I have heard really good things about this series and Ryan specifically lol These sound like such fun reads. I seriously need more time haha. Great review!
ReplyDeleteEw. The cover for Beautiful Disaster is awful!
ReplyDeleteHAHA sperm. Wow, now I can't look at it the same. Of course, I think "what a disaster" when I see "beautiful disaster." Great picks, Megan!
ReplyDeleteI really love the cover for The Testing I've read the book and know what the shield means so maybe that's why. Beautiful Disaster is just gross though.
ReplyDeleteJaime @ Two Chicks On Books
I've been meaning to read Kelly Oram's books for so long, but just never got around to it. :( Usually second books in a series do not go so well, so I'm really glad you enjoyed this one! And the cover is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAnd beautiful new layout Megan, loving the starry theme hehe. x
It deserves all of those good things! It is such a good series. :) And Ryan is absolutely the cutest! You really should read these. Thanks, girly! :)
ReplyDeleteOh no! You really should, if you ever have time. I think that they're great! :) I know, right? It was awesome to have a second book go well for once! And that cover is so shocking, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D
NEW DESIGN! It's sooo pretty Mags! Absolutely fantastic! I think I'm in love *^*
ReplyDeleteThat background is beautiful, well done. I do think the sidebar is a little too wide though, hope that's not too negative.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the new design! The colors are so pretty! And the background is gorgeous!
ReplyDeletealthough I saw the previous diesño'm new around here .. I love this design .. seems magical .. sorry for my English
ReplyDeleteMaybe if I had read it I would like it. I'm not sure. :) IT IS. So gross! O.O
ReplyDeleteHahaha I'm so sorry - that's just all that I can think! It's such a pain. :P I haven't read it... I'd kind of like to, just to see. You know? Thanks, Sunny!
ReplyDeleteI KNOW. It's so gross!
ReplyDeleteHaha it is really terrible - and I'm disgusted with it! I'm not sure. I guess not, though. :P
ReplyDeleteI love the color choices, and the designs are cool. I love the little truck..Good Job!
ReplyDeleteI love the background, but I'm not sure how I like the truck banner-quote. I love the quote; it's just the truck doesn't fit in to me.
ReplyDeleteLove the new design, very colorful and intriguing!
ReplyDeleteNew follower. I love it. Nice and clean. Beautiful colors.
ReplyDeleteI loooooooove the stars! So dreamy :)
ReplyDeletei love it. it doesn't hurt my eyes.. and it feels like im outdoors :)
ReplyDeleteOMG, Megan! The new design is gorgeous. I love it! :D
ReplyDelete& thanks for the awesome giveaway!
I think it's fabulous! I love the stars. I'm a space girl, so I love the moon, planets and of course stars. Great job. Thank you times a million for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love the stars and the pickup trucks! Plus everything is easily accessible.
ReplyDeleteOoo, cute design!
ReplyDeleteI just realized we both have a starry design now, lol. O_O
Love the new design Megan! Very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI actually like most of these covers, lol. I guess we all have our own tastes. I think Ashen Winter and Quarantine are amazing and two of the better covers for horror books. The only reason I read Magisterium was because I liked the cover. The book was meh for me.
ReplyDeleteI don't like The Testing, because it reminds me of Hunger Games too much. After Eden looks photo shopped. Beautiful Disaster is just bad taste...pun intended.
I love it,it's wonderful and unique :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great! The background thingie is so lovely! And the rating system is fun :D
ReplyDeleteI love the colors - it's very relaxing :).
ReplyDeleteI guess so! ;) I'm sorry to hear that the book was meh for you! O.O The Testing cover is just weird for me - I don't understand it! AND OMG yes After Eden is absolutely terrible. I can't stand to stare at it's hideousness for long. O.o LOL. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!! I love it <3 Thank you for the awesome giveaway, and congratulations on your gorgeous new design!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your new design. It's so beautiful:) I love the whole theme of it, the stars, the trucks and the colours.
ReplyDeleteYou "like" the love interest Ryan? Woman, you LOVE the love interest Ryan. Don't you go lying to me!
ReplyDeleteI think they're ready for it. Both you and I know those two are meant to be together. It'll happen, don't you worry... much.
I so loved the Mike angle of this book. It turned out to be my favorite thing about it, after Ryan and Jamie!! :)
Hahaha I'm not really lying! I like him a lot, hows that? :P
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure that they are, but I guess we'll see, right? I'm still going to worry about it, it's my way!
Haha, it's just nice to understand more about him! He's actually kind of a good guy now. :)
Still not good enough. You don't just 'like' or 'like a lot' Ryan. you LOVE Ryan. Big, capital letters, LOVE. Don't make me mad! (LOL, I'm kidding. You're allowed to just 'like' him... but I'm still not too happy about that LOL)
ReplyDeleteThey'll have to become ready, because it's coming like it or not. But I don't doubt they'll be together. Jamie didn't even once veer or thought there is a chance of them not being together, si...
It is! It's nice to see all the things Ryan loves about him.
Haha, sure. Whatever you say! :P LOL, I just like him. I just... don't LOVE him. I like him a lot, and that's just how it is. :P
ReplyDeleteI don't doubt that they'll be together, I just doubt their "readi-ness" for such a commitment. It's a big step, that'd for sure! But it appears to be coming... I can't believe that the story ended like that, though! O.o
Haha, it really is. <3
YOU DON'T LOVE RYAN?! *stricken* (lol)
ReplyDeleteWait - which "readiness" are we talking about; the proposal (which, by the way, doesn't mean they are going to marry tomorrow, you know.) or the you-know-what at the end?? I thought we were talking about the end all this time! It wasn't until you said 'commitment' that I considered otherwise xD
LOL. I guess not. :P
ReplyDeleteHahahahahha OMG I'm talking about the proposal. Not the you know what at the end! I figure they'll find a way out of that too, but the proposal is mostly what I'm freaking about. They're so young! I suppose that they could have a really long engagement, but the idea... is just madness to me, even though I see it all the time! O.O
Well, I thought it was really sweet. It's more like a statement - "I am going to stand by you no matter what, we'll go through this together", than anything else for me (and possibly a little piece of mind for Ryan - a mark that tells all the other guys BACK OFF! - marking his owner like an adorable puppy)
ReplyDeleteI don't think they're going to actually marry any time soon. Plus... you have to admit the circumstances are pretty unusual.
Haha "an adorable puppy". I'm glad that's how you feel about it - and that's probably how it's meant. I just have a hard time accepting it, you know? It's just...weird to me. I really don't think that they are either. And yes, way weird circumstances!
ReplyDeleteI think Jamie herself describes Ryan as a puppy in the book (or puppy eyes. One of the two lol)
ReplyDeleteI'm a romantic. I'm like... if two people are meant to be in my opinion, they could marry at 18 for all I care lol Though I guess in real life I might find that a bit weird.
Though, admittedly, since I come from a religious family background, some of my family members (not close family, though) married very young. Like, the younger sister of my aunt is getting married this year - and she's 22. I was shocked. But then, another family member that I'm not that familiar with married at something like 18, so...
I think puppy eyes was the term - it seems more like something that she would say. ;) LOL.
ReplyDeleteWell, yeah. I just generally think that some people (at that age) are more prone to just jumping into things with no thought whatsoever. I mean, I do that.
Well, whatever works for them, right? In real life, I'm not comfortable on arguing about couples readiness, because I don't know. But in book characters, it's easier, LOL. I guess I feel like I kind of know the characters. ;)
Really, Mags? Have you recently became engaged and didn't tell me?! :OOO How could you hide this from me?! *telenovela voice* (you walked right into that one lol)
ReplyDeleteHaha, if they're happy I'm not gonna judge them. I kinda envy having someone who makes you want to jump headfirst like that into the water with them, if that makes any sense.
I get you. I give love advice to my friends based on fictional relationships. *lame*
I knew I was walking into a joke like that when I said it... but it's just true! And unfortunately, no romantic prospects on the horizon. (What's telenovela?)
ReplyDeleteThat actually makes sense. I mean, yeah. I envy them too. Hahahaa people always ask me for relationship advice, and I give it... without being in my own relationship. I mean, WHY would they ask me? I don't know anything, LOL.
