The Julian Game by Adele Griffin

All new girl Raye Archer wants is a way into the in crowd, so when ice-queen Ella Parker picks her to get back at her ex, the gorgeous Julian Kilgarry, Raye is more than game. Even if it means creating a fake Facebook identity so she can learn enough about Julian to sabotage him. It's a fun and dangerous thrill at first, but Raye hadn't counted on falling for Julian herself-and igniting Ella's rage.

As Raye works to reconcile the temptress Elizabeth with her real-life self, Ella serves up her own revenge, creating an online smear campaign of nasty rumors and trashy photographs. Suddenly notorious, Raye has to find a way out of the web of deceit that she's helped to build, and back to the relationships that matter.

Adele Griffin's riveting novel explores the issues of generation Facebook: the desire to be someone else, real versus online friends, and the pitfalls and fallouts of posting your personal life online for all the world to judge.
The Julian Game was a huge disappointment in my eyes. I was hoping for a fun book about revenge, but what I got was really different-- and not what I was hoping for at all. The characters were the biggest disappointment of all, though.

I thought that Julian was very flat-- I didn't understand anyone's attraction to him. He was a jerk, and I hope I never meet someone like him. Raye (our main girl) didn't really grab my attention either. She made a few bad decisions, but the worst part of all that was that she tried to be someone else. I didn't feel character growth in either of them, and I didn't find myself rooting for either of them to have it. They were unbearably immature, and the pranks that Ella and Raye were playing went way too far.

I do have hope for Raye and Henry, though. That's all that I came away with-- hope for Raye and Henry. The story had no real moral that I could find. It was okay, that was pretty much it.

All in all, The Julian Game didn't really grab my attention. It was a bit of a disappointment in my mind, and I wish that I could have liked this one more.

  1. The cover for this is really eye-catching but it's so incredibly disappointing when the book doesn't turn out to be what we thought. Too many awesome other books out there to read. Great review Megan, hope your next read is better.

  2. Ah, what a pity it didn't work too well! Have you read Burn for Burn? It's a pretty good series about revenge and the sequel is even better.
    Lovely review, Megan! <33

  3. YES! I love Burn for Burn, but I haven't read Fire with Fire yet - I'd really like to, though! Thanks, girly!

  4. I like the cover as well, but it is way disappointing when the book doesn't live up to the image we've created for it. I agree! There are so many more awesome books. Thanks, Jeann! I hope so too! :)

  5. Have you already read Burn for Burn? That was a decent revenge plot book. AND OHHH :D LOL. I just saw your reply to Melanie. Ok, well.. it's funny that I just received my hardcover copy of Fire with Fire today. Like an hour ago, to be exact ;) IT'S THE PRETTIEST THING EVERRRR!!!!! I need my Lillia and Reeve fix. I don't even know what happens in FwF, but Amber (Books of Amber) is a fellow shipper of theirs and she basically raved in her review that she got all the feels so I can't freaking wait, haha. OK, your review:) I need some character growth for sure and wth. These characters sound like they have no personality whatsoever. Ugh.. Hate when that happens. At least.. you know, you didn't hate it. Two stars is better than one :D I hope Hush Hush is working out better for you. That one actually has a soft spot in my heart because I read it before I even started my blog and I loved back then. I'm done with the series by now and the final book is the best out of the four. The second one was a disaster I do not even want to think about though.. I hope you enjoy:)

  6. Haha, yes. :P It's no problem - at least we all like that one! :D I AM SO JEALOUS OF YOU RIGHT NOW. I haven't gotten around to buying it yet, but I love the series! Haha, that sounds like a good reason to me - I do hope that they get together. I bet they'd be adorable!

They didn't. :/ Two stars is better than one, though! I'm really liking Hush, Hush! It's a reread, so that I can discuss it with a bloggy friend, but I'm loving it. Even if I keep telling myself bad things that the characters are doing & acting like.. still love it. LOL. Ooh, I haven't read the third or the fourth book, so it's wonderful to hear that! Thanks! :D

  7. That's disappointing that this book didn't turn out to be what you thought it was going to be. I really liked Adele Griffin's other book All You Never Wanted... although it was definitely out there a little. I'm looking forward to Loud Awake and Lost (her new book coming this month). And I agree w/ you guys- Burn for Burn was fab, I need to read Fire with Fire SOON!

That stinks that you didn't like this. :/ It looked interesting, but I guess not. And I couldn't help but hear you were reading Hush Hush? I loved that book; I read it in my pre-blogging days, as well. *sigh* Enjoy it! :D

Aw, I'm sorry this was a disappointment. It happens, unfortunately. Thank you for the honest review, and here's hoping your next read knocks your socks off ;) *hugs*

  10. I agree wholeheartedly. The synopsis makes it so deceiving to your initial thoughts beforehand. Like it says GAME in the title, you kind of expect something. And then you read the book and it's not like it at all. I think somehow I managed to read the book. And I remember I enjoyed it.

Hope your next read is a much better one, Megan! ^^

  11. It was really disappointing! Oh, I haven't read that - but it looks really good! I don't mind out there, really. I've seen the cover of that one, and it's so interesting looking! Burn for Burn was fantabulous! :D Thanks for commenting!

  12. It does! I didn't think it was interesting, but you might try it. YES! I finished it last night, I still really liked it. I think that was my third time around! *nostalgic* Thanks, Sophia! :)

  13. I'm sorry too. Sometimes books just aren't meant to be. Thank you for reading it! ;) *huggles*

  14. It does make it deceiving - the idea that's portrayed in the synopsis isn't really what happens. I'm glad that you liked it, girly!

I hope so as well! :)
