Divergent(Divergent #1) by Veronica Roth

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. 


During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.


My Thoughts/Review:

Tris is a badass. There are a million other ways that I could describe her; but none of them do her as much justice as that one. Because she's cool, she's awesome, she's amazing, but she really is a badass, in the best way possible. Four is amazingly swoon-worthy, and badass. Roth just has a talent for writing badass characters. Now my rant of badassness is over, I swear.

I loved Tris because she was so brave, yet she was completely willing to admit when she was scared of doing something. May we all have that quality, because I sure don't. I won't admit when something scares me. I'll try it anyway, though. Four was completely amazing, because at first he just seems kind of scary, but as you get farther in the book, you realize that he is actually an amazingly developed character. He had depth, we just couldn't see it until later in the book.

The story was amazing. It kept me guessing all the time, because I was coming up with ridiculous schemes and ideas on how it would end. Was I right? Well, no, I wasn't. I was completely wrong, and I was happy about being wrong. If it had ended on some completely ridiculous note, I'm sure that I wouldn't have liked it as much. Because at this point, I am seriously debating giving it five stars. Which has never happened.

I loved how the city of Chicago, (I think almost all dystopians are set in Chicago) was divided up into five different factions, and everybody had a choice on which faction they would choose. I'm not sure which faction I would choose. I would say Dauntless, but I don't know if I'd make it through the initiation. So, all in all, I'd say it's a read that I won't ever forget. First five star review! *Woooo!*
