Invincible(The Chronicles of Nick #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Invincible (Chronicles of Nick, #2)
Nick Gautier’s day just keeps getting better and better. Yeah, he survived the zombie attacks, only to wake up and find himself enslaved to a world of shapeshifters and demons out to claim his soul.

His new principal thinks he’s even more of a hoodlum than the last one, his coach is trying to recruit him to things he can’t even mention and the girl he’s not seeing, but is, has secrets that terrify him.

But more than that, he’s being groomed by the darkest of powers and if he doesn’t learn how to raise the dead by the end of the week, he will become one of them...

My Thoughts/Review:

I absolutely love this series. I hope that YA keeps going the same direction, because I could sure get used to these guys's sarcasm. It's hilarious. You just can't help but laugh out loud at some of the stuff that is said in this book. Example:

“Were you raised in a barn? You don't just walk into someone's house."

Ash laughed. "I have an open invitation to enter whenever I'm here."

"Yeah, but what if he's naked or something?"

Ash led him into the foyer. "I've known Kyrian for over two thousand years, and I can honestly say that I have never once caught him naked in his living room."

And, here's another one, because I just can't resist. :)

“Fine. Let’s begin with something even you can’t screw up.”

“Way to build up my crappy confidence there. You should volunteer for the suicide hotline.”

“What makes you think I don’t?”

Nick screwed his face up. "Ah man, that's wrong on so many levels."

“Je suis ce que je suis.”

“Is that a spell?”

“It’s French, Nick. Means ‘I am what I am.’ Sheez, kid. Get educated. Read a book. I promise you it’s not painful.”

Bwa. Bwaha. See what I mean? It amazes me the amount of wit some of these authors can cram into their books. I wish I could do that, but I can never think of something that sarcastic on the spot.

Sarcasm. You're either good at it right when the moment strikes, or sadly, after the fact. Back to the book, ya'll.

So, now that we've got that covered, I think that this book was better than the first one. Because in the first one, the author was just getting her YA on, if ya know what I mean. She started it out writing Adult romance, so this is only her second time writing for the YA age group. I think she's doing great! Think about it, she's almost as good as Cassandra Clare, with her wit and all. :)

I, for one, absolutely love the character of Nick. He's kept his cool through the last two books, and he never lets life get him down. He's basically the eternal Mr. Sunshine, and could you honestly be that happy after almost being killed by so many different kinds of paranormal beasts? I don't think I could.

It's so hard to review books that are in series, so I'll just say this. This series is slowly progressing through plot twists, and I really like where it's going. And if it keeps going in this direction, these books will shape up to be pretty darn good. :)

    1. That's awesome! I haven't even read the third book yet! It's sitting on my shelf, all lonely and unread. :(

I know! They all say it's juvenile. Yes, of course it is. That's the target market! :)

      Thanks for commenting! :)
