Hi guys! I really wish I could do a giveaway about any other day, but since I can't, I save them for important things... such as finding an awesome new social media, in which I'd love to connect to you guys!

So, this is a giveaway for that!

The giveaway will run for three weeks, and at the end of these three weeks a winner will be chosen and will get the chance to get a book of his choice from the Book Depository.

Some simple rules:
- The giveaway is open internationally, as long as the Book Depository ships to you.
- Once the winner is chosen, they'll have 48 hours to reply. In case there's no response, there will be another winner chosen,
- No cheating! I do check, and in past giveaways I had to disqualify people because of that, which wasn't fun.

The Excerpt:

As we took the elevator up to the fifty-sixth floor my nerves reached an all-time high because of what I knew would be waiting for me when I reached the top. Or rather, who would be waiting. I glance at Duncan, trying not to let my panic show. “Are you taking us directly to the council?”

“Yes.” Duncan eyed me suspiciously. “Is that a problem? It sounded like you guys wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible.”

“We do,” Ethan assured him. 

I did, but that didn’t mean I was looking forward to it. I swallowed back the chunks that were starting to rise in my stomach and asked something I had to know. “Will she be there?”

I avoided Ethan’s gaze and held my breath as I waited for Duncan’s answer.

“She’s a member of the council now Russ, as is the Seer. They will both be there.”

Of course they’d both be there. Because the universe hates me. “Does she know I’m here?”

Duncan took a minute to answer me. “I thought it best not to warn her. She would have just agonized over it unnecessarily.”

“Agonize over it?” That pissed me off. “She has no right to—”

“You don’t understand. She’s been a wreck, Russ. I never even told her I saw you.” 

“She’s had no idea where I was this whole time?” For a second I felt bad. But then I remembered the way she clung to him when she said goodbye to me and I got angry again.

Duncan sighed. “You asked me to keep her out of your life. If she knew where you were, she would have come looking for you. This is going to be very difficult for her. More so than for you I think. You seem to have moved on better than she has.”

“I’ve moved on better?” I couldn’t listen to any more, and since I couldn’t really punch anything I kicked the side of the elevator. “She moved on before I left.”

“Would you like to see her before you’re brought in front of the whole council? I can take you to a holding cell and tell her you’re here. The council would understand the delay.” 

“No.” That sounded like hell on Earth. “I don’t want to talk to her. I was sort of banking on never seeing her again. Lets just get it over with.”

“It might make things go a little smoother if you got it out of the way before you’re questioned.”

I laughed hard. “You think the council cares about questioning us? They’re going to do whatever they want no matter what Ethan and I say. To tell you the truth, Duncan, I don’t really believe they’re going to let us go. That’s why I came. If they’re going to try to kill Ethan, then they’re going to have get through us both.”

Duncan laughed as the elevator doors chimed open. “Nobody is going to kill anybody. You’re always so dramatic, Russ.” 

As Duncan ushered us down the hall, I stopped hearing what he was saying. The consulate was fairly busy. There were people everywhere, but it wasn’t their stares that made my heart pound as I looked at them. I kept waiting for one of them to be a familiar face.

Duncan gave me a sympathetic smile and shook his head. “The council isn’t what you think. They aren’t cruel monsters. Dani was an unfortunate case, so your perception of them is skewed. I promise you they can be reasonable, caring people. They want order and justice, and they will be fair. They’ll listen to your story. I honestly don’t think you’re in any danger.”

“We’ll see,” I grumbled.

I stumbled to as stop as we came to a set of large double doors. “Where’s Grace when you need her?” I gasped. Ethan glanced at me and I nodded at the doors. “Dani’s in there. I can already feel her energy.”

“You want to hold my hand?” Ethan asked, holding out his cuffed wrists to me and batting his eyelashes. “I may not dissolve bonds, but I’m every bit as pretty as Grace.”

I appreciated his attempt to give me crap. I needed the distraction. I was supremely messed up right now and he knew it. Joking might be the only way to get me through this. “Bite me.

”We laughed, but the smiles left our faces the second the doors opened. Game time.

“Here you go. Signed. Sealed. Delivered.” Lyncee handed me back my yearbook. “You have to wait until you get home to read it.”
“Oh great, what’d you put in here? I hope you didn’t mention anything about me dropping my cell in the toilet.” She laughed.
“No. Something better.” I groaned. Her idea of something better meant it could be anything from embarrassing to, well, more embarrassing. I smoothed down my jean skirt and spun my locker combination for the last time of junior year. Next year, we’d be seniors. We’d have our last homecoming and prom.  1. Which character from your Pure trilogy do you relate to most, and why?

Some weary days, I feel like I'm hauling others on my back so El Capitan -- or, at least, today that's who I relate to -- maybe because I'm the sole breadwinner for the family, four kids, two dogs...

 2. Where did you get the idea for the Pure trilogy? From what I hear, it's a very unique idea!

It took a million small little flickering ideas. But, for one, our house is filled with toys and dolls, and I can confess that to clean up, I like to shoot for the toy basket and I have held the heads of a lot of dolls -- sometimes you can't tell where their skin starts and yours ends. So the idea of a girl with a doll-head fused to her fist wasn't a stretch.

 3. When you're not writing, what do you like to do?

Honestly, I like to dance. Almost any kind of dance.

4. I've heard a lot of authors say that they'd actually love to live in the worlds that they've created. Would you like to live in the world of PURE? How do you think you'd do in their society?

Hell no! I prefer PRE-apocalyptic life. I'd die. Flat out in a world of dusts and beasts and groupies. I wouldn't make it to sun down.

5. What's your favorite book, and why?

I have a lot of different favorite books for different reasons at different times in my life. It's why I keep writing, too. If I felt one book -- as reader or writer -- was completely satisfying, I'd stop there.

6. What kind of research did you do while writing Pure?


Lots of stuff, but much of it was about the atomic bombs Americans dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the stories of survivors. Turns out, we, as human beings, have already created the apocalypse at different times in history.

Blogoversary Giveaway + I'm Going on Hiatus

So, if you guys didn't know this - my blogoversary is in two days! Yay! But since I'm being featured today, the giveaway will be starting a couple of days early! And that is SUPER good news for y'all. This year, in just two days... I've been blogging for two years. Let me say that again:

Two years.

I don't know about you, but to me that's a long time to stick with something. It's had it's ups and downs, but ultimately.... this blog is my baby. Which brings me to the next subject - I'll be taking a break until March 1st. I've been encouraged to take a break by lots of fabulous people, and really... I think it'll be the best thing for me. You remember that post about managing reading and blogging? Yeah, I don't really have time for that. So maybe, by taking a break... I'll get a head start on it. Maybe it'll help to straighten things out, and maybe then it'll be easy again.

This was the first year - the first year that I really felt like I could call myself an "average" blogger. I'm sure I'll never be a big blogger or anything (and yes, that's kind of sad), but I finally feel like I can call this little space in the internet mine. IT'S ALL MINE. FOREVER.

This is also the first year that I've had my design professionally done. It's gorgeous, y'all! And thankfully, I'm still in love with it - I love my truck, and my stars... and I can honestly say that I don't think there's another blog out there that looks like mine. And I'm proud of this little design. Thanks goes to Katie from [KD Designs] for making it!

And it's also the first year that I've participated in a buddy read with a hashtag. That may seem like a small thing, but really, it was so much fun! The #PercyPowWow changes lives, yo. I'm so happy that Becca @ Pivot Book Review took some time to do it with me!

AGAIN, it was the first year for something else new - Sarah @ Book-A-Holic and I tried to host our own reading challenge, via The Raven Readers. Needless to say, we were the only participators. But we had fun!

I've joined two blogs as a collaborator this past year, and I've made lots of new friends - like Nitzan from Drugs Called Books, Mishma from As The Page Turns, and Stephanie from Bookfever, who's blogs are all amazing - and I seriously wish I commented more often. I've been bad about comments lately.

Last, but not least - this is the year of 100, 000 page views. That is no small number... and seriously? Woot, woot!

Dystopian December Giveaway & some Rambling!

I'm a little late with this post, but in my defense it's been a really crazy week! I guess I'll catch you up a little, but if you don't care just skip right on to the giveaway! :)

This post was supposed to go up yesterday, but I contacted Tina @ Book Landers and she said I could move it to today. Unfortunately, I forgot all about it, which is why I'm writing this all in a rush, and explaining my sad forgetfulness. It starts on Friday night.

On Friday, I was working. I worked from 3pm to around 10:20 pm that night, and didn't get home until about 11:00pm. My sister was making cookies, and she needed more molasses. So I got back in my truck and we went to town. I didn't go to sleep that night until around 12:30pm. Fast forward to Saturday morning - we were up by 8:30am, and on the road to Memphis, TN by 11:30. We got there around 4pm, had dinner, and started back home at about 9:00pm. We were stopped by the police, and we didn't get home until about 2am the next morning. The cop thing was just a simple speeding thing, no issue.

On Sunday morning, we woke up and went to church. I pretty much vegged out for most of the day, but still didn't end up sleeping until late. Basically, my mind is not operating correctly - I'm literally at work right now, and my brain is FRIED. Also, tomorrow I go to get my last wisdom tooth out. Oh joy.

That's all the ramblings & excuses that I've got for you. Sorry for the whining. :P
